    Problem burning DVD with Nero

    Recently I bought an external DVD writer. I tested it the first time about a month ago and it worked ok. However, I tried again yesterday (more than 10 times)and it failed. It complained about "SCSI ABORT" because "SCSI_HASTAT_REQUEST_SENSE_FAILED". It doesn't matter when I tried to burn a movie or simply a data DVD. Here is what has happened:

    - I think there was an Windows update during this time, I am using XP with SP2.
    - I un-installed and re-installed Nero and got the same result
    - I un-installed the DVD driver and re-installed and got the same result.
    - Before, I have installed Daemon Tool, which is a DVD emulator and used F: drive. I uninstalled it and still got the same result.

    In the error report, I saw:

    === Scsi-Device-Map ===
    DiskPeripheral : QUANTUM FIREBALLlct20 30 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
    DiskPeripheral : ST380021A atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On
    CdRomPeripheral : TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R1002 atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off

    === CDRom-Device-Map ===
    TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R1002 E: CDRom0
    HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4082B G: CDRom5
    =======================

    My E: is my internal DVD-ROM/CD-RW
    My G: is the Comstar DVD-RW but I cannot see it in the SCSI-Device map.

    Anyone knows what went wrong. I have a feeling it is the windows update... Any help will be appreciated. I enclosed the logfile.

    Many Thanks!!

    Sorry. I wasn't clear. It was an USB external DVD drive.

    If you haven't got physical devices showing up that are definately connected & have some virtual drive type s/w that is sucessfully managing to ennumerate a drive letter, then something has very probably gone wrong with 'class filter drivers' .. I'd say your error message
    SCSI_HASTAT_REQUEST_SENSE_FAILED
    is indicative that windows thinks it should be writing to another device than it is (btw for anyone wondering why the hell all these messages are about scsi, that's because cd\dvd drives 'pretend' to be scsi as far as windows is concerned)

    What we need to do now is get everything sucessfully off that might be affecting matters, make sure sp2 is ok, & then add back all your burning/ennumerating apps one at a time testing as we go.

    So I'd recommed removing all your burner apps (including anything like daemon tools, that 'burns' to its own virtual device), check my sticky in this forum for the 'class filter load order' tool, & do the 'upper & lower filters fix' also mentioned, so that the we have no 'foreign' (non native to windows) files involved or installed, then start the adding back of whatever apps you use ..
