Unable to use ALi PCI to USB card ports
First the existing config info.
Machine :
Intel 1.5GHz, D850GB Motherboard (yes, its USB1.0),
128MB RDRAM.
O/S: Win XP SP2
Device in Question: ALi PCI to USB convertor with 4+1 USB ports
Drivers Installed by XP:
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller (Repeats 3 times)
USB Root Hub (Repeats 4 times)
Issue:
Any device I connect to these USB ports, misbehaves
1. Printer : After 10 minutes, Printer is not recognized, though I had printed many pages in that 10 minutes in that SAME USB port
2. Flash Drive : It connects, I can browse but I cannot add/delete file. When I attempt to do that the drive dissappears!!!
3. 2.5" External IDE : This is the fun part. I get different symptoms each time when I connect, in ANY PORT...
a. Device is recognized, XP says its "TOSHIBA IDE" and guess what, Blank Screen->System Reboot.
b. This time the "USB Green Arrow" appears and the drive is listed. It thinks for sometime and then says something "Encountered some error when attaching this device". And the green arrow disappears!!
c. This one is the funniest. I connect the external IDE, the green arrow appears and Disappears without any message!!.
After I tried installing ALi driver (aliehci_152.zip) and this time the USB-IDE is not at all recognised.
Then I uninstalled that driver and now I get this message:
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, I have 2 onboard USB 1.0 ports.on my Motherboard
When I attached any of the above devices, Im able to use them without any problems!!
Please Note: Also I was able to use these devices in Windows 2000 before I DELETED it and installed XP. I mean the same damn card
HELP!!!!!!
