Audio CD's wont play, static....
I have winxp pro, Creative Soundblaster audioPCI 128D (WDM) soundcard; I/O Magic cd-rw rom & burner.
Have all updates, have all drivers.
I can listen to music on WMP, i can hear all sounds, I can burn cd's (use Nero) and all that works fine.
When i put an audio cd in to play, i hear nothing but static. I have played these cd before, tried several others that have been played in this machine and still same thing...Static, and cant hear music at all, so it dosent sound like static over music...just static.
Everything in device manager says is working fine, no exclamation marks by anything.
Any ideas??
Thank you.

You tried the update driver by internet option?
Try another set of speakers, check appliances nearby like radios and telephones.
Check where the speakers are plugged into socket, sometimes this is the cause of static.

anyone been inside the machine? you mite check that the audio cable from the cd player to the soundcard is present and connected. also in WMP you can go to the Tools menu and then Options and click the Devices tab. you will see your cd listed...clik once on it and then the Properties button. make sure that Digital is checked for playback.
