DVD-ROM doesn't work
I have just installed an Emprex 16X DVD-ROM internal drive on my Compaq Presario PC. It has an originally installed DVD-RW working as Master. The new DVD-ROM was configured as Slave. The BIOS sees both drives okay. In Windows though, there are three DVD drives shown: DVD-RW Drive - E:, and two DVD-Drives - D: and J:. The RW drive still works fine. The DVD-ROM opens on its own, doesn't read disks and can't stay closed any longer than a second or two. The system view doesn't show any problematic devices or conflicts. DVD/CD-ROM Drives include:
-DVD-16X DVD-ROM BDV316G (newly added drive)
-Generic DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device (no idea what this is)
-LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-16335 (DVD-RW drive)
What can be wrong with my PC? I don't think it's a driver issue, but perhaps you may know what the problem is.
Thanks in advance.

Remove the IDE cable from the problematic drive and leave just the power cable, if it does the same you can still use it as paperweight.

I unplugged the IDE cable as you suggested. Now, the DVD-ROM is gone from the device list, but behaves the same way (opens on boot, etc.) So, you believe it is faulty? That's a shame, I bought it yesterday. At least, I can bring it back to the store, if I manage to unplug the power cable. Yesterday, I was unable to do this.

Power supply plugs sometimes are stiff to get off. Use needle nose pliers and get between plug and drive (on sides) and pry off
