    How to Unlock Desktop Properties

my desktop properties = [Control panel -> Display prop. -> Desktop Prop.]
was locked by a some sort of virus protection advertisement. The program have changed the background picture to some kind of WARNING message. I have removed nearly all parts of the malware, except the backgorund picture. It is locked. Anybody know how to unlock this thing. Feel confort when giving any registry solutions because I am familiar with regedit.

Turn off active desktop - then remove the picture from the wallpapers.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Lennie, since you can play with the registry I'm assuming you have keyboard control. Get in the START menu, select RUN and type "Explorer" (without the quotes). This usually works and it sure beats getting tangled in the registry. Hope it helps. cheers.

    Problem Solved

OK problem solved. I encountered some kind of "ForceActiveDesktopON" reg key, when searching the registry. The malware had changed this value to 1. Giving the 0 value released active desktop back to on/off state.

you might want to take a look around for the *.html file that was being used for the desktop and delete it as well..that one isnt a jpeg.
