virtual memory

It's a xp sp2 home edition 128 ram 20 gig hdd, and every time I increase the virtual memory, after reboot it goes back down to its original setting.
Any help to maintain the virtual memory up. I tried setting it at 1.5 times ram and at 2.5. I tried setting min and max the same.........any suggestions

Make sure you click the <SET> button when you make your changes.

This applies for each change you make to each HD, if that is what you're doing.

In the first place, although some say 128 meg is enuff ram for XP.
I would say it most definetly is not.
Ram is cheap now.
It may be that just having such a limited amount of ram is causeing this issue

So minimal ram is causing virtual ram to remain minimal....The option to buy more ram was my first suggestion to the owner, i was just cleaning some spyware and viruses from the lappy and noticed it was slow so wanted to boost the performance a little. (adjusting for best performance, defrag, crap cleaner, etc...) thanks for the help guys

I am saying not that minimal ram is the express cause. I am saying that minimal ram in xp can and does cause some seruious weirdness is all

It has always been my feelings to let Windows Manage Virtual memory. I would definately say the low specs of his computer when it comes to ram and hard drive space play a big role in his performance which is why I am assuming he wants to increase virtual memory.

What kind of ram does the computer take? SDRAM and DDR are very cheap now and I would suspect that would help alleviate any performance issues.

I have trouble with low virtual memory too. I am not savy with what virtual memory even is but XP seems to find I am low on it at times and tells me I may have to wait until it is increased. CAn someone explain in layman's terms to me what virtual memory is and how it comes to run low?

All you do is download the program called "Download Guided Help"
and run it For windows XP.

No frost on the pumpkins now its early spring and hasn't been any decent rain for months so the dams are dry and there is no water for the pumpkins and definately no frost.

I have checked out those links you suggested and have a grip now on what it means. thanks mate
