    Remote Desktop

I have a windows 2000 server that I resently got hooked up to a static IP address. For some reason I am not able to connect to it using Win Remote Desktop. I also cannot "ping" the server. I don't believe there is a firewall installed and I ave checked the setting of the router and the port has been forwarded correctly. Is there a setting in windows 2000 server that I am missing? I have attached a screenshot of the error I receive when I try to connect to the server.

Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

    NooNoo,

Actually I'm connecting to a windows 2000 server from a windows 2000 professional computer. I think there is a setting that will allow incoming connections somewhere but I cannot find it.

    Thanks for your help

well, This guest just showed up in chat, so i should give an update as to what is going on.

He said that he installed remote desktop. I asked if he enabled it, he said he did not know how.. When i asked him how he installed it, he just left chat.

now ipfnd, The question still stands..

What steps did you take to install/enable remote desktop?

Gentlemen, I apologize for leaving the chat and I honestly don't remember the question you posted but it looked like maybe the topic got dropped. Anyway...... All I did was download the application from Microsoft and I ran it from the server "in question" to access a couple of our other servers with no problems. I did not enable it or anything beyond just downloading it and typing in an ip address. Again, I apologize...

the application you downloaded is probably the remote desktop CLIENT. The server is enabled on one of the tabs of system properties dialog.

I've right clicked on "my computer" and went to properties and there is no "remote" tab. Do you know where I find it on Windows 2000. We had a network guy in our other office which also runs windows 2000 server. I believe he set up the server to accept incoming connections. I seem to remember him needing the operating system cd to install some program before we could connect to the server. I hope this info helps.
