Router Problem

I have DSL thru SBC Yahoo, and recently added a wireless router. Setting the router for WEP and MAC filtering, it works perfectly with my laptop and my daughter's laptop.

However, when I try and set the router and laptops to use WPA-TSK, my laptop keeps connecting and disconnecting every 5 seconds. My daughter's laptop makes a good connection, but I can't get internet access.

My laptop is running W2K, my daughter's laptop is running XP Home, and my PC is XP Pro, if that makes any difference.

DLINK had me disable the UPnP on the router, but it made no difference.

Any ideas ??

Oh man I'm confus-ed before I start !?! What's WPA-TSK ? Do you mean WPA-PSK ? Pre Shared Key ? which uses TKIP -Temporal Key Integrity Protocol ? .. I'm sure you do

First thing to check is that your router can actually do this, lots of home routers are 'wpa compliant' (which is a bit loose as a description as there isn't really a WPA standard !), but many less than that are capable of WPA-PSK. If you've been talking to dlink, I'd have expected them to check that, but I guess that depends on the guy on the other end, appreciating there's a difference..

Why use both mac filtering and a security protocol? mac filtering is by far the most bandwidth efficient, and if you think someone has time to sit outside your house with a pringles can spoofing your mac addresses so s/he can get on the net, you must have one hellova system!

Sorry to confuse you, confus-ed Yes, I did mean WPA-PSK, using TKIP.

Actually, every time I try to make it work with WPA-PSK, I have to go in and re-do the network settings my daughter's laptop. She's getting tired of having to do that, so I think I'll just leave it as it is...

I'm using a DLINK DI-524, which is listed as:

WPA — Wi-Fi Protected Access (WEP with TKIP, MIC, IV Expansion, Shared Key Authentication)

and I have upgraded the firmware to the latest rev.
