I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro, with Intel PIII 866 MHz running Windows 2k service pack 4.
I have been trying to get a cheapo NEC based Cardbus 4 port USB 2.0 to work properly. All the supplied NEC drivers install fine, but the MS USB 2.0 drivers do not. I always get the driver not found message.
Any ideas, I have tried everything (including upgrading to service pack 4, etc.)?
First place to check would be toshiba support Many laptops required a bios upgrade (supplied by the laptop maker for a specific model) or cardbus and other driver updates to get nec usb chipsets going. You didn't post your model, so I cannot check for you.

Yes, all the NEC drivers are OK, but the Windows USB drivers have yellow exclamation marks and only work at 1.1 speed. I will get a screen shot when I am back on that PC.
Which utility? There is a whole list.
I will let you know the BIOS version when I am in front of that PC.
Bios version is currently 2.6 ... suggest you update. Having done that, I suggest you remove ALL usb devices, controllers, and hubs in safe mode from device manager - unplug any usb devices and remove the pcmcia card. Then into bios setup and disable usb. Boot to normal mode and make sure windows does not detect any usb controllers and hubs - if it does, you missed a setting in bios. Repeat until no usb is detected (and no unknown devices show up in device manager).
When all is clear, leaving usb off in the bios, install the pcmcia card as per the instructions (usually drivers first, reboot then plug in pcmcia card). If that goes ok and works properly, enable onboard usb and allow that to install. Post back what happens.

Well, I bought another card, different manufacturer Equip, but it turns out to be the same NEC chipset. Now this one is not recognised at all, indicating that something has screwed up in the cardbus drivers...
