    Microsoft sidewinder wont work

Hi all just wondered if anyone could shed some light on my problem. Windows 2000 or windows 2000 service pack 4 will not recognise that I have a microsoft sidewinder joystick connected to my usb port. Any ideas why this might me?
    Thanks
