PC NEWS: Dell to Stop Free Home Delivery of Computers

Dell Inc. will stop its practice of sending low-end computers to customers homes without charge in order to cut costs, the company said on Thursday.

Starting on October 10, Dell's free shipping offer on basic models will apply only to people willing to pick up their computers at the post office, said Jennifer Davis, spokeswoman for Dell's U.S. consumer business. Customers will have to pay extra for home delivery.

We do in the UK anyway....
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Yeah, except when they want to make it 'free' as an extra enticement, to allow them to manipulate the price you thought you were paying ('as advertised') vs what you actually pay, as at the prices for some of the budget models, there's gotta be a hidden cost somewheres - at least they've given up with the notion of charging for windows seperately, which I thought was a total con-trick ..

Now what was that about 'no shops' saving you money again ? I'm sure it doesn't cost anything to take a computer home once you've bought it in a shop
