Should I stay, or should I go?
Well, there's another monster hurricane out there at this very moment, and its official track as of Wed is directly on line with where Charley hit last year...in other words, RIGHT AT ME!!!

Of course, Wilma needs to traverse the entire Gulf before it makes landfall, and the cone covers almost all of Florida, but....

So, what would you recommend?

With this much advance warning, why are you not gone? Be safe.
I didn't surrender, but they took my horse and made him surrender. They have him pulling a wagon up in Kansas I bet.

Aye. It is indeed a great deal of advance warning. Which is why most of SW Florida, besides the Keys, have decided to wait until later today or tomorrow to decide upon what emergency action to take. Heck, the 'cane hasn't even made a right turn into the Gulf as of yet.
I will wait to make my decision, and I MUST get gas today. Yesterday all the stations were packed with long lines or out of gas completely as the panic started. I have several gas cans filled already for my generator, and I have plenty of water and canned food and batteries, and the various necessites required for a hurricane kit. In other words, thanks to last year, I am quite prepared. BUT: I shall be watching this thing very closely. Yes Ferrit, I agree that I got lucky last year, although the damage to my property can't be called luck, per se. Most of all I remember being really scared...and I will NOT go through a Cat 4 again. My best friend (remember Super Bob Gaz?) recently moved up to South Carolina and I've got an open invite...but I do need to get gas today.

What to do?
Invest in a good surf board, wait for hurricane to get close, then head to water for some really big waves. lol Actually, I think if you been lucky once, then get outta there before luck runs out.
And by the way, If you decide to stay, remember what they all say, its Not nice to fool with mother nature. Good Luck and stay safe.

The best of luck to you, Triple. If you decide to ride it out, hunker down and anchor everything down. But, don't wait to the last hour to get out; it would be heck of a lot worse to ride the storm out in a massive traffic jam. (I don't imagine there a lot of basements in Florida.)
I didn't surrender, but they took my horse and made him surrender. They have him pulling a wagon up in Kansas I bet.

LOL. But, the younger Bush is way ahead of the feds. A (edit) "state of emergency" has already been declared so that everything at the State and Local level is at the ready. The calamity that was Louisiana and Mississippi will not happen in Florida. In fact, many locales practice the Florida approach to Hurricane preeparedness, as they should...we've had plenty of practice.
Plus, as it stands now, it might not hit until Monday since it's slowed down so much. So many events from tomorrow (friday) through the weekend have been cancelled or rescheduled already, they may have jumped the gun this time. That is what I call being extremely proactive.
I got my full tank of gas now though.

Well, we're not leaving at the moment, as Wilma now seems to be moving about as fast as a fat kind on the way to gym class. We'll wait until Saturday to make the decision. Besides, I'm helping my mate from work move ito his new house this afternoon :P
