Welcome to WinDrivers, hardcorebrian.
When WinXP is installed, it sets itself up according to the hardware (including motherboard), and your problem is likely because XP needs to be set up for the new hardware.
If you have a standard WindowsXP setup CD, the thing to do would be to boot up from that CD, and select the option "Repair Installation" from the menu it offers. This will usually get Windows running successfully, so you can then install the correct drivers for the new board and be 100%.
Since your system is an HP, if you have a System Restore disk, or a recovery partition on the hard drive, the problem could be harder to resolve, as they are also set up to restore according to the original system configuration.
Please let us know what resources you have available, eg XP CD, driver CD for new motherboard...

No it is not downloadable. HP will sell you one
Are you saying you changed the motherboard in the case and kept the same windows on the harddrive?

Ah, I thought you had upgraded the actual motherboard.
You could try to restore from the recovery partition on the hard drive:
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/inst...ilion_xppc.htm
but I'm not clear whether this will return the system to factory condition ie lose your existing files etc.
Edit: Information about destructive and non-destructive restoring here:

If you installed updated motherboard drivers, they are files installed into Windows on the hard drive, so rolling back to an earlier restore point will stop using those files and go back to the older ones. The only thing that would be installed into the motherboard itself would be a BIOS update, that wasn't what you did was it?
Tattooing is the keying of the Windows installation to the motherboard it is intended for, so you can only use the CD on that system, and they have to send you the right one.

i think i did
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...tem=pv-31037-2
this is where i got the update from but it says to update the bios which i obvisiouly did so that means system restore won't do anythign to help?
or i have to wait for a cd from hp to recover it.

You do indeed seem to have done a BIOS update. If the HP operator said there was an issue regarding the tattoo, I would wait for the CD to arrive and use that. The restore from the hard drive may not install if the BIOS tattoo is no longer what it expects, although it might not make it any worse...
