Format, reinstalled XP Pro, no sound
Hi,
I formatted my drives and reinstalled Win Xp Pro on my Dell Dimension 4550. I used the Dell Resource CD to install the drivers.
But I have no sound and a yellow question mark beside the Audo driver.
I've been at Dell's website, inputted my Service Tag and downloaded the driver. When I run setup.exe the installation begins, but the Sound Max instllation aborts with an error message "no driver found". I've also tried to point to the .inf, but it fails.
Does anyone have a solution to this?
Regards
Tor

Is there a chance you have something other than the standard integrated sound?
The SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 is listed as an option for that model as well.

Yes, I have the integrated card, not Soundblaster, but I will use your tips and look into it.
Thanks for your replies!

Tor, if you try the Dell tips, and still have no sound, I would have to assume the soundchip has gone bad. A decent sound card is under $10, and a really excellent card is about $100. Of course there are points in between, so a replacement or upgrade won't be painful.
