    How to hide the send/receive window in Outlook 2003

    Does anyone know how to hide the send/receive window in Outlook 2003, so it just appears in the information bar at the bottom of the proram window? Also where do I turn on the option to show small pop ups when an e-mail arrives?

    After 3 years I did a re-format of my main drive and Im just customizing my apps.

    TIA.

    Tools;
    Send receive param;
    Click the "show progess" - the dialog box will appear
    Check the "do not show progression"

    Okay for some reason that doesnt work like it should. When I click on it the send receive window pops up all the time even if Im not actually sending and receiving. If I click on it again it just brings the window back up again. Im assuming it should tick or untick that option but it doesnt for some reason.

    When you install Outlook, you either have it look at the internet, or you have it look at a local exchange server... which is it?

    It looks at the internet to download mail. Its my home computer. before I used to be able to have it send and recive with just a text message down in the information bar at the bottom right. However I could right click that and then choose Show details and the main send and receive window would open up. Now I cant get rid of the main send and receive window.

    Thanks Noo Noo. However Im not sure what they mean by

    "Make sure that the "Don't show dialogue box during Send/Receive" option is checked on the Send/Receive dialogue box"

    Is that the dialogue box that comes up when you click send and receive which shows the progress? If so mine doesnt even have that option, and I have been unable to find it anywhere else either.

    I might ask in that thread and see how I go.

    Thanks,

    I seem to remember you can right click on the bottom right hand corner to get this option.

    Thanks Noo Noo, it seems to be working now, the send/receive dialogue box is visible in the taskbar but at least it doesnt pop up on top of everything. I think thats how it was last time anyway.

    Thanks for that.

    Apparently 2003 will not minimise to systray, so you are stuck there... unless someone has other knowledge?

    The issue of that stupid progress window has been a recurring problem for Outlook since the 2000 version. It seems intermittent, sometimes occuring and sometimes not. Some users seem to be plagued by it, and other not. I've never figured out how to make it consistently stay away on all my computers (though it behaves on most). You may want to try a complete uninstall/reinstall of Office, installing all the security updates before entering Outlook. Just my 2˘ worth (or is that tuppence worth?)...
