    Backlight or Inverter problem

Hi, on Thursday I will open up a friends laptop screen as his display has gone very dim. I have read a few threads on this site about this problem and it seems most likely to be the inverter, backlight or a conection betwen the 2. However someone mentioned in one thread that this symptom can have another cause. I was wondering what that might be.

And also the best way to test the inverter for bad contacts. my electronics knoledge is limited. I understand the basics of direct current, ohms law as a starting point but I do not know which pairs of contacts on the inverter are conected to each other. Or is it visually obvious?

    Any help appreciated.

PS he is willing to let me do it, I have explained that I am going to be doing this for the first time and he has obtained quotes from professionals and he has decided we are going to give it a bash.

I am not personally an expert but I found this here could be useful for you.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
