no active mixer device installed....Having Similar Problem with Multimedia ....

    NooNoo,
    Hello....
I've been reading the threads you posted for a guy nicknamed jatt about the problems he had with multimedia audio devices... well, I have the same kinda problem.
When viewing Device Manager it shows:
The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).
The Everest Report for my PC shows this for Multimedia:

    Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1] PCI

I used to have windows 2000, and Updated to Win XP, and I used to install Genius' Sound Maker 32X2 driver, and that used to take care of the problem, but that CD doesn't contain drivers for XP, so I downloaded the drivers for XP, installed'em, but I still get no sound through my speakers, and Have the same DEvice manager error: The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).

Noo Noo. Could you please Help me, I have No idea what to do...

    Welcome to Windrivers Joe

No point in PMing me to speed up response, I reply only in public and when I have time.

Boot to safe mode and uninstall the drivers from add/remove programs and then uninstall what's left from device manager. Reboot, detect and reinstall. Code 28 often is just a case of persistence - the driver doesn't quite install right, sometimes because of updates or lack of them. Have you updated to sp2?

    Another POST

    Hello NooNoo,

I have updated to service pack 2 actually, but I don't quite get it how's that goin' to help. anyways.....goin' straight to the point Which drivers should I install? those that I downloaded from the Genius Website that I mentioned?

And pardon my ignorance but, what do you mean by sayin' uninstall what's left from device manager?

I read that you told jatt, that perhaps he should download some intel driver called via_sound.zip, Should I do that myself, Could that work for me?

thanks, I'll check your first solution you gave me in a while and post the results... thanks..

OK, Do you have a genius card for sound as well as onboard sound for your motherboard?

your motherboard sound driver is here It is actually a realtek codec (which is not unusual) and there is a readme.txt link to read with the installation/update instructions.

All right I give you that one....

But.... on second thought, I think I used to install those Genius drivers because those are the ones that came with my speakers. and since the CD didn't have the ones for XP, I downloaded'em, with no clear purpose however....

Let's see what happens when I install the intel drivers.

    Thanks....

My pleasure... as for the Genius speakers... it is rare that speakers have their own drivers, usually it is a specialist setup... it may have been needed for previous OSes but not your current one... however I am just guessing here as I don't know what your entire setup is.

    No Active mixer devices

Hi all I have been trying to follow the advice from noo noo and others to others about the no active devices problem. I have tried everything even going to packard bells help site and downloading the correct driver but when it comes to install it, it stops and says nothing to install too. This computer is a Packard Bell and is a friends who had it given to him off his sister. It was loaded with viruses so I decided to wipe it clean and reload it with windows xp pro off a OEM disc. I have. It all went great until I realised it had no windows tune when loading. Since then I have been stopped dead in my tracks. I even went and bought a sound card which did put the volume control near the clock but it did not produce any sound. The computer is a iEXTREM PACKARD BELL. I have undone everything I've put on and done a system resore.
    In device manager it says
    NO ACTIVE MIXER DEVICES
    MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLER
    MANUFACTURER UNKNOWN
LOCATION PCI BUS 0 DEVICE 2 FUCTION 7
DRIVERS FOR THIS DEVISE NOT INSTALLED (CODE 28)
UNDER Resources it says this device is not using any resouces because it as a problem.
    MOTHER BOARD GIGABYTE-GA-851ML (3PCI, 1AGP,1CNR,2DIMM,AUDIO,LAN)
MOTHER BOARD CHIP SET SIS 651

    CPU SPEED 2600MHZ
