This may seem like a dumb question...

If I was to purchase a mother board that only has ATA 100 up to 2 devices would that be compatible with my harddrive that says it is a ATA/133?

I doubt it would be.. but I just want to make sure.

This the kind of motherboard I would like to get.

    Thanks.

Now does ATA work with SATA? Like that motherboard I just posted has SATA... would my ATA/133 plug into that and be faster or..?

Is your hard drive a sata drive or ata drive? If you are not sure, post the make and model.

You could always buy a pci sata controller. Or just buy a sata drive and use the other drive for storage.

    Ultra ATA/133 Maxtor 200GB
That means the drive is a normal (P)ATA drive with a maximum speed of 133mb/s.

    SATA1 is 150mb/s.

    ABIT AL8-V ATX Intel Motherboard
    Storage Devices
    PATA 1 x ATA 100 up to 2 Devices
    SATA 4 x SATA II
As you can see the board you choose, can do PATA, so its not a problem using your chosen hard disk.

Also SATA is much faster, so if you havent purchased that hard disk yet, check to see a SATA version of it, the price difference is negligible or even cheaper in the case of SATA vs PATA Hard Disks. Newegg.com shows just a US2$ difference between SATA & a similar (but slower) PATA HardDisk.
