    Question 3dfx Voodoo3 Driver Problem?

2 days ago, I found I had a trojan horse virus on my Dell Dimension XPS T550 PC (made back in 1999). The virus has been removed, but my Dell (Sony) Trinitron P990 Monitor now displays the color white as a light pink. NOt sure what the flaming orage color is 'suppose' to be, but seems like there's an awful lot of it on my screen now!!

I'm not sure if re-installing the 3dfx Voodoo3 driver will help or not. But I'd like to try that before trashing this huge monitor.

I tried to access Dell's download website at: http://ftp.us.dell.com/video/VD3NT.EXE
but the page wouldn't display. This driver is for Windows NT, but I upgraded my operating system to 2000 4 years ago without updating the driver and all was fine.

Has anyone ever heard of this 'color' problem? Any suggestions as to where I can download this driver or any other things I can try to fix this 'pink' problem?

    Thanks much!
    Sue

Not sure on the problem but the website works. So its likely you have not completely removed the issue of the viruses.

While I tend to agree with Ferrit about your chances of still having a pest in the system, I have to say that I have 2 bench monitors with the same problem. One has a bad video cable (a souvenir of my last burglary) and displays colors OK if it is at just the right angle. The other monitor is a Sony which has some electronic issues. For months at a time the color is fine, then all of a sudden, everything is tinted magenta. Both annoying, but usable in a pinch for service work.

I would check the video cable for any obvious kinks and wiggle it around a bit to see if color quality changes. Be sure it is securely plugged in to your video adapter. If you can, try a different monitor. Sounds like your system is old enough to have hardware dying on you. Coincidences are rare, but they do happen.

Thanks for replying, but I ran Norton AntiVirus and Spy Sweeper and they say there are no viruses left. I again tried to click on the download for the Dell site and the site mentioned by Ferrit: http://www.voodoofiles.com/23414
But the download link on the Dell page gives me the following error:
    "The page cannot be displayed"
The download link on the voodoofiles page gives me the following error:
"404 Error: Page not found on VoodooFiles.com,
You are being directed to the home page..."

So, both download buttons don't work for me for some reason. This is very frustrating. Oh well, thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it.

Hi SueK1000, hopefully you haven't given up yet.

VoodooFiles have gotten a little thin on 3dfx support lately, here's a few links to Guru3D.com, who I've had very good luck with recently.

    Voodoo 3 2000/3000/3500 drivers:
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=157

Voodoolizer for Win2K/XP (I've had good luck with Voodoolizer drivers) :
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=624

    3dhq Voodoo 3 drivers for Win2K/XP:
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=510

Hopefully one or more of these will be of help.
    When all else fails.....FDISK!

Still think your hardware is at fault. Surely you can bum another monitor to check can't you?
