    I-Tunes Installation = no internet-HELP

I was installing my I-Tunes and the directions told me to go to the system configuration utility and uncheck all boxes under services and click I-Tunes. That went well----now that I have reversed everything (rechecked all of the boxes)--I have no internet service. Any ideas?

I hook up to the net through ethernet. This is a Dell Dimension w/ Windows XP.

    This is a DSL Modem--

Under the System Configuration Utility--under Services the status for the following services is stopped (instead of running)

    Application Layer Gateway Service
    Application Management
    Asp.Net State Service
    Windows Audio
    Background Intelligent Transfer Service
    Computer Browser
    Symantec Event Manager
    Symantec Network Proxy
    Symantec Password Validation
    Symantec Setting Manager
    Indexing Service
    Install Driver Table Mananger
    ISSVC
    Office Sourc Engine
    Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
    Remote Access Connection Manager
    Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
    SavScan
    ScriptBlocking Service
    Symantec Network Drivers Servic
    Symantec SPBBCSvc
    SymWMI Service Telephony

**All of these are checked--but the status is stopped. I tried system restore--but that did not change anything. This is a new problem for me. I hooked my modem up to my laptop to check--and its running fine.

    HELP!!!

Geesh, what "directions" exactly told you to do that????
Listen: you need to restart ALL the services that you disabled.
I am not going to go into all the services that you disabled, but go back into the management tool and change them back to automatic, and then click "Start", to start them manually.
Again: I'd really like to know where and how you got those disasterous instructions???

Apple Tech-- the normal installation was not working...so someone from Apple Tech told me to go through this long process-- the article can be found at www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n302538.

After following RRRRRRRRRR's advice I would check your firewall and make sure its not blocking you.

I checked itunes configuration and there is nothing there that would block you. I know I have my Windows firewall disabled.

My guess is Norton originally blocked you, and by disabling what you did you crippled your internet.

If you can get back on the internet after turning everything back on but still cannot get into itunes, try turning off Norton and see if iTunes works.

Take a look at the some of the links at the bottom of the page here http://search.symantec.com/custom/up...=gbh&qt=iTunes and see if any of that helps you.

are you sure that you followed that set of directions exactly? I'm thinking you may have missed number 9:

Make sure that "Hide All Microsoft Services" is selected.
    Computer Rescue Service

"those who do not remember history are condemned to repeat it."

Yeah, that is what it must be. At least now, that "advice" makes sense.
