Bios upgrade / help
I've been advised to upgrade my bios to allow my computer to detect a new 512mb memory module. it only detects 256 at present.
I've found a bios upgrade which seems to match my motherboard / chipset
I have a via technologies 693A motherboard with Apollo Pro 133 chipset
Please have you any advice on whether this bios upgrade should work or not. The bios upgrade is available at the site below.

Can you tell who makes the motherboard and what model it is. Some motherboard are physically limited to what size chip can be placed in a memory socket. The apollo 133 chipset is rather old and your memory may have to meet certain requirements to work properly in there. Also it just may not be able to handle 512MB in a single slot.

Intel Mod
Welcome to WinDrivers, Seamus.
Bob's comment is appropriate. Is that the support site for your system? Note the comment attached to that update:
"Please identify the clock generator IC on your motherboard before updating the BIOS. Upgrading with a wrong BIOS file may result in failure to power up after the upgrade !"

All the motherboard manafacturers were making boards using that chipset, but it doesn't mean their BIOS updates are compatible - flashing wrong BIOS can be fatal to the motherboard as it was said before...
512 single memory stick can work on this chipset - at least,I've seen it already as I have the same chipset MB for testing SDRAM. But it must be double-sided memory stick (chips on both sides) and having at least 16 chips (low-density).
Any other 512MB sticks will not work - that's a chipset's limitation, not BIOS's.
