Stop 0x24 error, can't get Windows to start

My computer is an IBM R52 Thinkpad laptop, the most recent model. This problem started unprovoked as far as I can tell (i.e. no recent installations come to mind that might have caused it, perhaps it is a virus). The only way I can access any functional aspects of the computer is through IBM's Rescue and recovery program.

    The symptoms:
I try to start my computer and text comes up saying, "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully." It then gives me an option whether to start my computer in safe mode, safe mode with command, normal startup, etc.-- ALL of which lead to a blue screen saying that "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." ...

    The problem:
The error mentioned is a stop 0x0000000024, which from what I've seen on the web indicates an NTFS file system error (ntfs.sys). My options seem to be limited because a lot of the advice centers on rebooting with the Windows XP CD whereas my Windows XP was factory-installed from when I bought the computer and I do not to my knowledge have the disc.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Not as far as I can tell. It gives me the option to start with safe mode & command prompt but when I select it it just reboots and cycles back to that screen.

Here is one option that usually can get around most boot problems, it is a wonderful tech tool, although you will need access to another PC that can burn a cd and one that can download this setup.

    Boot CD

It is something I use all the time when everything else fails, great tools to help get you around a few things.
