Shut down issue.
I recently did a fresh install of Windows ME on a Compaq Presario 5452 computer.I would have gone with Win XP, but some of the drivers were not available for XP. Prior to that Windows 98SE was on the box. The install went ok, and all of the dvices are working. However in device manager under sound video, and game controllers, i have two listings for gameport joystick ( one is disabled ), and under System devices, there is a yellow exclaimation mark next to motherboard resourses. Like I said eveything seems to be working fine, but when I go to shut the computer down, it will hang at the "it is now safe to turn off the computer " message.
I double checked all of the settings in the BIOS, even tried another PSU, with no luck.
I Would at least like the box to shut down completely like it did before the upgrade.
Thanks for any help.

That usually means you want some chipset patches which might also sort out the other stuff, did you apply any ?

Nope, it's not that confus-ed. Goto the BIOS programmer and enable the APM functions.
You may also have to enable this in XP via the desktop properties\ScreenSaver\Power management. There should now be an APM checkbox, but it should do this for automatically.
Common XP problem with non-standard BIOSeses support.

Ooops, got my ME and XP round the wrong way (Doh!). Still, enabling the BIOS APM will still help. To enable APM on ME is still in the same place, but I think you have to also enable it under Motherboard resources in device manager.
NTT . I'll get my coat...

Take a look in the BIOS options and make sure VGA has an IRQ assigned to it - I have had this in the past.
