    WD SATA Hard Drive

    AMD 1800+/266 Athlon 1.53GXP RT
I just purchased a WD3200KS HD and found that I made a mistake in that this drive has a SATA connection. My 3 year old system does not support this drive yet.
What can I add and I would like to make sure I get the right connections before I buy more stuff for my system.
I assume the WD Serial ATA RAID Controller & SATA cable with Secure Connect™ on their web site would do the trick but I just want to make sure.
One other question, will my data transfer from my EDIE drive presently in the machine and this SATA talk to each other OK?

    Welcome to the forums Bigrig

Yes if you get a PCI based SATA Controller card, you can connect use that WD SATA HD in your current PC. And yes it will act as just another Hard Disk in the system.

Could you link us to what exactly you want to get from the WD site? Just to be sure

Assuming you live in the USA, this is the kind of PCI SATA card you need. Plenty to choose from here.

Also dont forget if to check if you need a SATA Power Cable, and a SATA data cable (although the PCI SATA Card I linked above comes with all of that)

You can also just put it in a SATA HD Enclosure and use it as an external drive.

Unforunately I have already made the purchase not knowing of the new connection so I do not have to return it. Might as well update as we go. This is what I bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136003.
Your link to the Promise Fasttrack shows cabling. I assume that is all I will need to get going.
I think I will put it in the case like to old one.

OK if you have not bought the controller then a new motherboard is an option.
One with built in sata controllers.
Be forwarned that changing out the motherboard will have some issues as well.
Namely gettting the current windows xp install to accept the new motherboard.
A repair install usually works in this case but you will need to do all the windows updates and you will need to install all the devices on the motherboard itself. And likely re activate xp

Yea, I thought you might say that but at this time not likely. This computer will be good when I replace the HD for my Grandkids. I will update me soon with a new system.
This forum is great and Thaks I do appreciate it.
Any suggestions though, as I would be looking forever as there are so many and know just enough to get me in trouble.
