Samsung CDRW/DVD Combo Drive missing from Device Manager!!
Recently, my CD drive disappeared from 'My Computers' and the device manager. The BIOS seems to detect it but with exclamation points.
When I start the computer (in the black background screen when it detects memory, graphics and such), the CD-drive is displayed something like this for a quick second:
Samsung!CDRW/DVD combo drive ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !U818!!
I've tried reconnecting the wires, and even replaced the HDD cable that connects into the CD drive and the IDE (in primary master). The power is no problem because the cd drive opens and closes fine, but the computer just seems to not recognize it at all.
I had daemon tools and I've experienced no problems with it, but I've uninstalled it. And also I had Nero burning software, which too I've uninstalled. Uninstalling didnt help. I've followed some tips from microsoft.com about deleting some lower/upper filter in the registry and this too did not help. It's bizarre and is driving me nuts!
Can anyone help?
Thanks so much!

might want to try resetting the bios to defaults.
also you could try disconnecting it and boooting once "without it"
then shutdown and boot with it connected again.
You say its on ISE 1 as a master?
So where is the harddrive?

Hey, Ive tried disconnecting the Samsung Combo drive and starting the computer disconnected, then shutting down and reconnecting it. Samething happens..displays the Samsung CDRW/DVD ! ! !! ! ! with exclamation points and is missing from the device manager.
I tried loading BIOS defaults to no avail. (is this okay to do? I felt a little iffy cus my computer now starts up with a different screen, i think displaying the bios company and I have "install new hardware for covenant AC-97audio" popping up and with exclamation point on the device manager next to "multimedia controller." I didnt finish installing cus i have a separate audio card.. )
When the Samsung combo drive is detected in the Bios, in the setup it displays it as connected to primary master IDE.
My harddrive is connected to Third Master IDE.
I have an Alienware brand computer:
Pentium 4 2.8ghz
Windows XP home svpack 2
80 GB HD, ST380013AS
512 Ram
nvidia geforce fx5200ultra
creative augidy 2 soundcard.

now that I've loaded BIOS defaults, I see a different startup screen and it says the following in order:
detecting IDE
no drive connected to Fasttrack controlle. BIos not controlled
something along those lines. Yet in the BIOS, next to primary master IDE, this is displayed: Samsung SM-352B!!
If there was somethign wrong with the connection or the drive itself, shouldnt it not detect it? I tried putting in a different CD-rom drive (a LG one from an older computer) and it worked. But it is detected in Primary IDE slave not master.
Please anyone?

When computer loads it says this in the following order:
