    Mini PCI Wifi card needed

    Hello again folks.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite 1905-301. It has a mini pci slot for a wifi card, and with a built in antenna. The card was an option.

When I bought it, the "g" cards had just come out, and I decided to let the price come down before buying one. Well now there are all kinds of these cards around, and I have no idea which one to get. I did a search and found a recommendation for the "Atheros"(sp?) card.
Ebay has mini pci wifi cards out the wazoo. Prices good, shipping price is bad.
something like (buy it now - $24.99 Shipping -$9.99)

Any suggestions, comments, Ideas or recommendations, would be of help.

I really don't need one, but Hey they're cheap now. And I may be able to get some use out of it.

    Thanks

If it was me, i would be tempted to get a USB wireless nic for the flexibility. It can be used in almost any other system and then put back without issue.

I've found that It's hit or miss with aftermarket miniPCI wifi cards. Ive had some that seem to work with any laptop and some that don't. Intel has been the one we've had the best luck with so far. Personally I hate USB dongles, Ive had several customers trash their ports by snagging it. 1 needed a new motherboard as we were unable to solder on a replacement, and they needed USB, and only had one port. PCMCIA is my fave wifi card for portables.....

    I only have USB 1.0
I imagine that would be a bottleneck.

I've been seeing the pcmcia cards fairly reasonable in price, but I read (somewhere) that the mini pci cards hooked to an internal antenna, (like mine has), beat out the pcmcia cards in reception.

    any thoughts??

I like the idea of having the minipci, its just that neither of my laptops support it. If you have the slot and antenna, get one. Just make sure you can take it back if it's not compatible..... If youre really industrious you can google around for the part number that your manufacturer uses and try finding one on ebay or from aftermarket places to ensure compatibility......
