another 16 color nightmare
I just moved, lost my recovery disks during the move, got a virus, and needed to reboot. I obtained a win98se retail boot disk for my old, but usually faithful, hp pavillion 6640c with a sis530 chipset. Now I only have 16 colors, no display size adjustment, and no sound. I desperately need a new driver for my video card/monitor. I tried the 530108 download as described in another thread, but could not seem to get through the driver wizard as described in the read me file attached to it. could you please help me to find an appropriate driver? I need it asap to finish my reports for school and run my tax return program. the sound card driver would be a bonus, but it's not as urgent. thanks in advance.

I went to http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html and downloaded the EVEREST HOME EDITION as described in another thread. It is an awesome tool! It was very easy to use and now I know more about my pc than ever. The reports were thorough and easy to send. I am currently waiting for a reply from them for better drivers. If their responses are as good as their program, then I should soon be on my way to a better running pc. I will keep you all posted. If you are looking for information on your pc and you are just an average joe like myself, then I recommend this program. It will tell you everything you need to know.

Welcome to the forums transplantedpatriot
Everest is indeed a very good program, but the way it works is that you get the system info, and then you use that or post it here, so we can help you find drivers
You mentioned your HP model, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...&lang=en&cc=us thats the page with the drivers.
It says SiS integrated, and you mentioned SIS530, try here as well:
http://list.driverguide.com/list/OTHER/company955/
and ECS have the SIS 530 listed here (for multiple OS's): http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/drivers_vga.html

I went to the sites you posted. I downloaded several different drivers, but the driver update wizard stated that the installed driver was the best. Although the wizard seems simple to use, I am not sure if i am using correctly.
I am lost!!!! what can I try next?
