    securityenhance.com has taken over

when we load internet explorer, we go to securityenhance.com we cannot change the home page nor can we run firefox.
also, there are three red/white x's in the lower right and they keep becoming balloons that say security risk or malware problem etc.
there is nothing in msconfig-startup so i guess it is in the registry but i don't know what i am looking for or at in the registry.
anyone have any idea how to deal with this garbage.
    thanks

I use Avast anti-virus. It usually catches malware and adware problems. I also use Lavasoft adaware personal, spybot search and destroy, and spyware blaster. I hear micro$ofts anti-spyware is good too. all these are free for home use and work well.

Welcome to WinDrivers Davemarcus. Did you try the suggestion by Kodiak yet?
It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!

Irv, this has gotten to be pretty common. Well, at least I'm removing it everytime I turn around. Removal instructions and links to the best removal tool I've found are here. Please follow the directions as the author has them posted, and it all works better. http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_R...SpyAxe_Removal

i will be playing with that computer tonight and will let you know if i get rid of the problem.

situation arose because the computer originally was on dialup and we disabled virus check because of the constant updating and bandwidth usage. when my friend upgraded to dsl we forgot to enable the virus checker. what a mess!

    thanks

finally got over to my buddies house and player with his computer

first, i ran the ewido scan and that seems to have taken care of it. it ran for just over an hour and found over 1000 items. wow.

second i ran the smitrem program and running it after ewido, it ran very quickly and i don't know what it found.

now the computer is running ok but i have to reinstall the virus checker since it must have had an infected file and now it won't run

ewido is quite a nice program

    thanks for the help

    This worked for me

Followed the links above and removed the files hp????.tmp from C:\Windows\System32

Also went into Registry and removed the references to HomePageBHO

Restarted the PC and no more www.securityenhance.com as my re-directed homepage.

    Hope that this helps anyone.

    Still cant remove securityenhance

Would you mind telling me which of the links you followed because I've tried a couple of the suggestions and I still can't remove securityenhance.

Also Spyfalcon has also infested my PC and I can't get rid of that for love nor money.

    Thanks.
