Compaq presario 1800 18XL381 display problem
i recently installed xp on my Compaq presario 1800 18XL381, it originally had ME! now it wont start up unless i disable the ati mobility 128 AGP 2X (compaq) Display adptor. a solution was posted to go into display settings- advanced- troubleshoot- and tick off "enable write combining" someone replied and said it worked for them but hasn't for me?? i suspect its because mine is a presario 18XL381.. what can i do to get the most out of my dislpay adpter without it bombing out of windows or hanging? i have SP2 installed.
HELP!!!!

Hi lestatzw & welcome to wd forums.
If your laptop originally came with ME on it, my first guess would be that you probably want a bios update for matters to work correctly under xp.
Start here @compaq

Will it start in safemode?
If so, go in and remove the display adapter and then reboot and see if it will reinstall it

Tried this .. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...wareitem=33335
or this one
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...wareitem=33357 ?
Compaq call bioses rompaq's for some strange reason known only to themselves, BUT both of these are dated from 2000 so you may already have a newer bios.
(I see comcraphooey's help integration project still needs work ! {HP & Compaq are now one company if anybody wonder-ed why the hell I'd linked to compaq .. I did ! } btw I know they are both for 98 originally too.)
& you did what Ferrit suggested too ? Remove/reinstall ?
Also are there any 'fast read' or 'fast write' options that you've noticed on any property pages ? Try them off too ...
