Do I need a soundcard for my notebook?

    Hello,

I just re-installed Windows XP on my notebook, and while the volume when I used it before was pretty bad, it's almost non-existent now.

The volume still works through the headphones and to play games and basic windows sounds, but when I play a DVD or CD, it's barely audible through the built-in speakers.

I thought maybe I didn't install the drivers for the sound card, but then found out that the sound in my notebook is controlled through the intel ich6-mchip.

    Help!

    Welcome to Windrivers mekatech.

It would help us if we knew what laptop/notebook you have.

    Speakers?

If the sound is good through headphones or output jacks it could be the speakers themselves. Most notebook soundcards are built on the motherboard. Of course there are PCMCIA soundcards for notebooks available now, for example http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102185. I would have the speakers checked.

Just a small point- You may need to turn the volume up
You should be able to do this either from the little speaker icon on the taskbar, or you possibly may have a dial or hotkey that needs to be used. (Hotkeys may require a special applet to be installed- We need your laptop model to find this out)
