Need help installing combo drive(cd,cdrw, dvd) Toshiba Satelite
I have a Toshiba 2415 S205 laptop. Computer runs great except the cd rom drive stopped working. So I ordered replacement, installed and the computer doesn't recognize it. When I start my computer the light goes on, so it's getting power, but it is not being recognized in device manager or anywhere else.
I know i'm out of my league here, I think I have to change things in bios to get to work, but if you can help that would be great. Thanks
The drive is a TEAC DW-224E-BPE
mine was a TEAC DW-224E-34, I was told
it is compatible, but can't verify for sure.
It's the same drive from what I can see.

The light stays on always or it eventually shuts off?
I found a support page for it, but you shouldn't need drivers for this with a modern version of Windows.

What was wrong with the original drive? Its possible that you have something wrong internally with the connection if 2 drives are not working.
As adept mentioned, IDE CD-ROM drives should be simply a matter of inserting them and they should work without any drivers or other work involved.

The original drive worked great until I went to Iraq, when I got home it stopped playing dvds then stopped reading cdr's. I had it looked at and the tech said it was the drive.
If I plug the old drive in it still allows you to put disc in, then the drive just spins, sounds like it's trying to read the discs but is unable to. It works as far as power, response, etc, just doesn't read.
The light only comes on for a few seconds, then off. And if I press the open button right when it comes on it opens, otherwise it doesn't respond after the light goes off.
