What software are you using to copy the dvd's or copy to dvd?
If it works fine in anotehr system that could be where the problem lies.

Multiple burning software present often causes problems, try taking one off for now & see if that makes a difference.
Each bit of burning software uses its own engine to do the burning part with (windows has native drivers for reading), & they are called 'class filter drivers' by geeky, folks like me...
Run the tool caled 'class filter driver load order' & post up the results, & this'll help me/someone confirm that you only have one bit of burning software present, & at least eliminate that as a possibility

Ok so your filter drivers seem as they should be, at least the bottom bit is right - I'm a bit puzzled why it says 'no lower filters' in the middle when there is one though .. It should only say that if its a rom device.
How many devices have you got cd/dvd wise, just this external unit ?

Nero should have a lower class filter file called pxhelp20 for some & most later versions - when I check
So I think try removing your current version of nero (the one bundled by sony instead of or as well as 'sonic now', is version 6.0 & there's loads of updates or 7.x) & then try the latest trial from nero & see if that makes a difference.

So get them to look at this too , what takes seemingly 'ages' here to get through in terms of 'quick fixes' should take a bench tech in a shop about 1/2 an hour or so & may well save you tearing your hair out !!
