    Boot problem with XP SP2

    my g/f's comp will not boot to desktop...it boots half way very slowly...gets to the windows splash screen goes black and then an error message appears in left top of the screen that says: No boot device detected: System halted. now ive checked boot device priorities and moved the harddrive to the first slot and still no improvement...thx for the help

    Well obviously somewhere it sees something otherwise it wouldnt show the splash screen
    have you tried safemode (press F8 at the startup.)
    You might try to go to safemode with command prompt and do a chkdsk /r
