Problem with all CD/DVD Drives.
I've got this problem where sometimes a CD works in my "QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-242" and sometimes it doesn't. It just sees a CD with nothing on it.
I just bought a caddy and a DVD-Writer (Pioneer DVR-111 series) and the same thing happens with that. It doesn't read any CD/DVD, either. Plus windows sees it a DVD/CDR drive and not as a DVD writer.
The Pioneer website says to use the generic driver that Windows auto-installs and does not provide a driver on it's website.
The Driver CD I got with the Caddy cannot be installed as my CD drives cannot read it. I tried it on another machine and it didn't work there either, however that is a really, really bad machine.
I did some googling, checked the FAQ on the Pioneer website and I can't find anything..
Anyone got any ideas?
Really appreciate any help.
Thanks.

I found a firmware upgrade but once installed you can't revert
back to old firmware drivers.
I have never did a firmware upgrade.Wait for someone else to
post help with that if you decide that is the avenue you need
to take.
I just thought it may be a firmware issue.

Their guide to upgrading firmware is pretty straightforward and I agree that firmware will likely solve the problems. The upgrade history shows they have made mucho improvements in the read and write.
I upgraded the wife's Sony and is simple. One thing - be off-line from the internet AND turn OFF any antivirus before you initiate the firmware upgrade. Don't run ANYTHING other than the upgrade program (that includes music files and the bathroom taps - lol).

Thank you for the imput CTT.I hate to think I have the answer and it be something I have personally never tried.Firmware upgrade makes me think of a motherboard
BIOS upgrade gone wrong. That's why I put all the warnings listed below.
Wait for someone else to post street1 may be killing your equipment.
