    ibm mboard question

    i bought a used ibm motherboard and installed a mobile p4 2.80.
when it boots i get an 0167 error - no processor bios update
then it finishes booting ok but runs the chip at 1600
the boot screen cannot identify the model number of the motherboard and just reports it as unknown
i cannot reflash the bios and the error message is no cpuid and flagupdate matched
is it possible this board does not recognize the mobile p4 cpu and that is the source of the problems
is there a way to run the mobile chip faster on the motherboard

    thanks

To answer that you would need to state the motherboard model number and the IBM model it was destined for. IBM have motherboards made for them and make their own for specific machines. Often you cannot upgrade the processor because the bios is written to recognise only one type of chips. I am not saying this is always the case, but mostly. Until I find out what the models are, I can't go further than that.

i replaced the processor with a non-mobile chip and all is well.
the mobile p4 has to go into a motherboard that allows setting the voltage to the chip to get it to run at the faster speed.
the ibm bios does not allow for that.
    thanks
