External hard drive problem
Hi.
I bought an external hard drive (300gb seagate) that was then mounted by the shop keeper into an external case. It worked perfectly for 2 weeks but then it just stopped working. The noises it began to make were different, though they did not sound like those dangerous malfunctioning computer noises
Now, if I plug it in via Firewire or USB it just doesn't get recognised - although the little USB noise will sound. When it is plugged into the firewire socket, on the control panel -> system -> device manager I get an error after the beep noise
"*a yellow exclamation mark*Initio IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device".
I do remember on one of my attempts at plugging it in, windows had a little bubble talking about the drivers not being correct and it might not function properly. But it was functioning properly for 2 weeks.
Is there any chance someone could help me get it working again? I know this hardly any information but I don't know what else I can give you.
Many thanks

This external enclosure that your hard disk is installed in... what kind of enclosure is it? Who makes it (manufacturer) do you know the chipset that it uses?
Don't ask me... I just work here.

The actual external closure looks really quite tacky. It says it is :
3.5" USB 2.0 + IEEE1394A TO IDE HDD ENCLOSURE
F-E3A1UF - 1530 series
F-E3A2UF - 1530 series
F-E3P2UF - 1530 series
There seems to be no acutal manufacture label on the box
I'll write out some of the details of the instructions:
Compliant with USB 2.0, IEEE Std 1394-1995 and IEEE 1394a-2000 specification
Compliant with ATA/ATAPI-6 specification
Support PIO mode 0-4, DMA Mode 0-2, UDMA Mode 0-5
Compliant with USB Mass storage class bulk - only specification and SBP-2 protocol.
Support high speed bla bla
Support 48-bi LBA for large capacity array
hmm I can't find much about it.
IEE1394a (6pin to 6 pin)cale
There is also a mini driver cd included but I haven't got a clue how to use it. It contains alot of files for a large array of periphals. There is still no company name or anything.
I could get pictures of the hard drive, the closure, the pins and the disk and instructions for you but would it help?
Thanks
