what have i done wrong

Corsiar- XMS2-5400C4- 1 Gig (512x2)
Chaintech SE66LE-T6 6600 LE-PCI Express 256
iNTEL Pentium D-920
Hitachi Serial ATA HDD

Sooo, the thing won't POST..not even one single solitary BEEP!
I'm kinda new with this, anyone have any answers?

Do you have a display? You could try removing your ram and then power up
you should get beeps.

No display!
With RAM removed i get beeps indicating "hardware failure".

You might have to flash the BIOS to the latest version. I had a friend that sells computers, he was building a Asus P5LD2 Deluxe. At first he used a 840 CPU, which worked fine, then he change th CPU to a 940, the mother wouldn't post.
After a few phone calls to Intel he was informed to flash the BIOS with the latest realese. He did and everything worked like a charm.

Your problem is getting a 8xx series CPU to get the mother board to POST. If you can get it to POST flash the BIOS to the latest version at ASUS's web site.

You have to get an 8XX CPU (Prescott) to get the mother board to POST. The only way to do this is find someone that has a 8XX CPU or take the mother board to a computer place and have them use a 8XX CPU to flash the bios.

We just had something similar happen with a new mobo here, the guy forgot to insert the black and yellow 4 pin auxilliary power plug and got the same results. Maybe it just needs a tug to make sure it is seated?

A "NEW" Motherboard should come as "advertised". Why should i have to get a different CPU if the bloomin thing is supposed to support the "other" CPU's?

Is it not ( the Mobo) supposed to support higher end CPU's without a BIOS flash? This is not the first time building a PC....there are no lose connections, etc.

Your only recourse is to contact tech support at the place you purchased your mother board from.

You don't have to get testy with me I'm only passing on information that fixed a mother board in a similar situation.

The Springdale CPUs (9XX) haven't been out very long and the mother boards at retailers probably don't have the latest BIOS to support the CPU.

Call Intel and see what they say.

Hey, Raw! I would verify that all components are properly seated. If memory is in sockets correctly, video card is seated all the way down,etc. I'd be looking to replace the mainboard under warranty. I'm currently having lots of trouble with Asus boards (well, not just Asus). My defective/failure rate is much higher than it should be for their products right now.

forgive me if i sounded "testy" that was not my intent. i do appreciate any
help i can get, it's only my frustrations exposed since i never had a
problem such as this one....by the way, this is a replacement that i got
from zipzoomfly and still the problem persists. i was wondering if any of
the hardware i purchsed, memory, video card, etc. could be contributors to
said problem.....again, thanks for your input.

tyamada makes a good point about BIOS problems with mainboards. The specs you see are often for the current revision, and may not reflect the actual product you are shipped. A local dealer probably would either replace the board with the current version or flash the BIOS for you. Bottom line is that you've been sold hardware that isn't really compatible out of the box and the vendor needs to fix it or replace it. Nice thing is, if you did this transaction on a credit card, and the seller isn't responsive to a fix, you can dispute the charges with your card company. The issue of products that don't actually meet the published specs is all too common. I get customers who can't install the Call-Waiting software that ships with their U.S. Robotics modems looking for a fix all the time. Turns out the modems have V.90 firmware, and the software needs a V.92 modem to install and run. So the modem firmware has to be upgraded before the software included with the product will work!

out because of standoffs,Screws in wrong hole etc......

try this.....take motherboard out of case and set on table next to case but not touching case...connect power supply, cpu, fan,memory and video card...and start it up...if it posts you have a short..if still not you have a hardware issue

markduren, Asus told me to do just as you have suggested....and i just finished doing exactly that, needless to say, no beeps, no POST.

(maybe i "cooked" the CPU ?
