    Belkin F5D7001 on Win98

I've got a friend that just got a Belkin router for his son in laws high speed cable, (same house) and was attempting to network to it with a Belkin F5D7001 wifi nic. Well he got this card because it was the only one at wal mart that said it was compatable with Win98. After installation attempts, support calls, and having them send another card (didn't work either) I did a little searching and came up with a mention in a review over at circuitcity.com that says that the cards won't work with PCI busses older than 2.1. I havn't checked his computer, but I suspect it is somthing like that. Just an old MB.
Has anyone ran into this and have a workaround. Cause he's got two wifi cards now (they didn't even want him to return the first one) and no connection to the router.

(I told him to run some cat5 and be done with it.)

    Thanks

    Deadeye

If your familiar with driverguide you know you must do free registration to
    download the files.

They have a Win 98 through XP driver file there.

If you're looking for drivers/manuals, you can find them at the manufacturer's (OEM) website here:
    http://web.belkin.com/support/downlo...1&lang=1&mode=

I would definitely trust them more than downloading something from a public bulletin board. You may also notice that the drivers from the OEM are 40.46 Mbytes in size while the others are only 19.5 MB. That's a major diffenrence if you ask me.

Also, notice the other links there for getting help.

If you click on Product Specs, you will see that it needs Win98SE. The standard Win98 may not be compatible with this NIC. Can you verify which version of Win98 you're using?

Do you have a model number or anything on the PC you're trying to install it on? If it is still running Win98, then yes, it is possible that is is also the older type of PCI slots.

    thanks folks..

tried all the drivers. He's got SE, but it's gotta be a hardware issue.
    Just old..

I thought maybe someone had seen this problem before.
