I can't read DVD's in my DVD-ROM
I'm having a problem with reading DVD's in my DVD-ROM. My BIOS sees it as a DVD-ROM. The model # of the DVD-ROM is DM086D DVDROM '06/00/21'. I'm running Windows XP SP2 and FusionSoft DVD Player. What gets me is if I start or reboot my computer, about 98% of the time in Windows Explorer the DVD player shows up as CD Drive (E:) and the other 2% of the time it shows up as a DVD Drive (E:) and will play DVD's. The DVD player will read CD's with no problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert

Hi ,
I don't know if your DVD-ROM is an old one or new ; but if it is
new and you hv a warranty or guarantee then check with the shop
you purchased it.
If it's old then i think you shd be sure whether the lens is not distorted
.You can get a Cd cleaner to do it for you.
Also , try checking the hardware connections : make sure all cables are
well connected and jumper settings match with the HDD .
One thing i'm guessing; if only your CD came with a driver then re-install it;
and also try to change your DVD player software.
With your windows explorer problem what i can say is that i'm suspecting a
windows file corruption;you can do a windows repair using your windows XP cd.
Good Luck .

My windows 98 computer does not want to loaded up the master recovery cd at start up, or play any music cd. I tryed going into setup at start up. There nothing wrong with the cd-rom hardware itself. The computer doesn't want to load any cd put in it.
Thank you
Harry

Hello Harry, and welcome to Windrivers. Your request should actually have been posted in its own thread, but that's not a major deal, we can sort that out later.
So, if I'm reading correctly, your CD-ROM will not recognize any cd's, in or out of windows, is that correct? Is it a standard cd-rom, a cd-rw, a dvd, etc? Also, have you tried cleaning the drive with a cd lens cleaner?
