    Red face Lost CD/DVD drives-dell

Need Help! Been going round & round w/Comcast with no luck on reconnection to internet but in the interim lost the dvd/cd drives on the dell dimension 4550.
They were working fine yesterday. I can uninstall the drives & Windows XP finds them & reinstalls the drivers but says it can not find the devices. I have checked cables & all looks good. I guess it could be the cables but kinda doubt it. Bios sees them fine too.
I'm at a lost. Any thoughts? Thx

    Welcome here to Windrivers.

    Some questions:

Did you install any new cd/dvd software last couple days?

Did you have a power bump or anything?

Have you the driver install disks for the drives or are you using Windoze drivers?

If you are using after-market burning software driver(s), what name(s)?

    Some progress-got drives back!!

Thanks - went back to a Restore pt from last week & I got the drives (both CD & DVD) back.
Now I have to see if I can get back on to the internet & do some cleaning & checking around.

I really think it may have been something thru COmcast or a hit we got - it dumped 2 non-networked computers off the net & hosed up the tcpip or ?? on both - with the same symptoms. (one wireless & one ethernet)
We could only get to some websites, very slow, some websites only painted 1/2 etc etc

I just lucked out I had another laptop I could use the cd drive to load the USB drivers to access the new cable modem since I could not get the etherent to work on that one either. I connected directly to the modem each time by-passing the router & TA. Comcast support was ok but kept saying it was on our end. He did admit it was very strange coincidence tho.

I'm going to put 1 piece at a time back on & hope I can return the new $60 cable modem..

    More to come - thx
