emachine refuses to accept cd and dvd drivers
I have a emachine etower700. Well, it's not mine, thank God, but anyway, BIOS will acknowledge that I have my two roms installed,(sm308, and m241), but when mellenium edition starts up they suddenly don't exist anymore. I've been at this for hours and I am about to throw it out of my window. The roms are samsung by the way. One is a dvdrw combo and the other is just a plain old cd rom. I created a floppy that has the drives on it and it's supposed to have some sort of flash utility on it. Anyway, I install it, reboot it, and then still nothing. I've tried different roms out of my computer and I get the same result. This particular version of ME is about to go the way of the do do unless y'all can help. I'm going bonkers

CD-ROMs/DVD-ROM's do not require drivers. Windows has built in drivers to recognize Rom Drives. If those drives along with other drives are not recognized in Windows it could be a problem with the IDE controller and/or the IDE cable. Try changing the IDE cable. Either that or Windows is corrupt some how.
Can you boot to Dos Mode with CD-ROM support using a boot disk? If so see if the roms are picked up by the generic drivers. ANd if so will it read the discs?

You must mean the IDE controller drivers. Cuz HardDrives don't need drivers either.
