Laptop fails to detect CD-RW
Hi all,
Am using a Hyundai laptop with a built-in CD-RW. I was using it to watch a VCD a couple of days ago. That's when the trouble began. Had a pop out that told me there was some software conflict with the Direct Acceleration or something like that. After that, my laptop could no longer detect the CD-RW.
This happened once in the past but I was able to solve that by referring to the "CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP" support info from Microsoft. I've re-tried that but it does not work this time.
Btw, BIOS does not detect it as well. Also, its not listed under Device Manager.
H E L P ! ! !
Sincerely,
Steven

Welcome to Windrivers millemeow.
The fact that the bios doesn't detect it does not bode well for you my friend.
I'd say the drive is toast...sorry

Same as last time
Hi Shamus,
Thanks for the reply. FYI, when it happened once the previous time, it was the same. BIOS back then could not detect it either. The CD-Rom wouldn't run even though I had configured it as the 1st boot. Funnily enough after getting the instructions for the fix from Microsoft, it worked again.
What gives? What do you think is going on here?
Cheers,
Steven

What version of Easy CD Creator do you have?
If you uninstall Easy CD Creator do you regain cdrom support without having it installed?

That's the problem. I don't use Easy CD Creator anymore. Not since that first time when it posed problems to me. I did run a VCD on the CD-RW the other day. Within the disc was a Roxio player. I used that to run the video on the VCD. After that, all hell broke loose and I could no longer detect the CD-RW.

There have been many instances of Roxio being non-compatible with other installed drivers like nero, etc and causing weird problems.
Uninstall Roxio completely - you might need some help using say Driver Cleaner or some such to completely remove it.

Hi CCT,
Thx for the advice but the Roxio player came embedded in the VCD and runs off it without any installation. So there is nothing to uninstall. Do u think the Driver Cleaner will still help in this instance. Where can I download this software?
Cheers,
Steven

Hi again CCT,
Just to let you know that I've found the Driver Cleaner. Will post the results after I've tried it.
Cheers...

Sigh.... no good. Used Driver Cleaner Pro. Also used Roxio Zap. Still cannot detect the CD-RW drive.

If your bios does not see the drive there is no way for any OS to set it up. As shamus said earlier, DEAD DRIVE, try replacing the drive with known good one.

Hello, What Sly and Shamus is telling you to do is to obtain new CD-RW
and physically change drive with known good one or New one.
It appears you have a failed drive.
