PCMCIA USB2.0/IEEE & Camcorder detected but unable to capture
Hi,
I've done a massive searh on the Net and in this forum, but I'm still unable to find a solution to my problem. I have a VIA chipset PCMCIA USB 2.0/IEEE card which is automatically detected by my Win XP upon insertion. When I connect my Panasonic camcorder to the IEEE port, it is also immediately recognized.
However, after that I cannot capture video using any program. Windows MovieMaker allows me to control the camcorder (play, fast forward, reverse etc) but gives an error when I try to capture. Using the pre-loaded Intervideo WinDVD Creator, the computer would lose connection with the camcorder, and then find it again. When I try to capture video, the same cycle repeats.
I am running XPP with SP2 on a Toshiba Tecra A6. I have tried installing the XP1 IEEE drivers as suggested here, but to no avail.
Any ideas what seem to be the problem? Thanx in advance.

Well, I found the problem: it is the fire-wire cable. For those having similar probs, try a different cable. The original one I had looked very good. It is shielded and all, and looked very well built. Furthermore, it detects my camcorder immediately. Who would guess that it is the culprit? I used a different cable, and can now capture - albeit with some dropped frames
