Installing Norton AV only out of Internet Security

I bought Norton Internet Security 2006 rather than just the AntiVirus to replace my now expired Norton AV 2005 because it was actually cheaper. I installed the whole thing last night out of curiosity but I do not really want most of it as I have other solutions or just don't want it.

How can I pull the AV only off the disk please as it seems to be integrated and there seems to be few options on instal to decide what you want.

BTW Installing 2006 is the easiest Norton instal yet IMO. Bit too easy, less fun

I haven't done this with 2006, but you used to be able to go into the cd thru explorer, find the NAV folder and trip the .msi from there. Also you might try installing the whole thing then removing NIS and see if it gives you the option to leave NAV. I think this is how i did it for 2005....

I had already tried to instal from the WINNT NAV Folder but a dialogue box came up that the MSI must be installed from Setup.

I uninstalled like you suggested but the only option I was given was to instal Parental Control which I had declined when installing so I carried on with the uninstall as this nanny package is really annoying me. I have already taken care of security with my own choice of solutions. It took off my old NAV 2005 which at least was protecting me minus today's updates as it only ran out yesterday.

Guess I will have to buy a standalone copy of NAV or choose another product. Pity I threw the box away or I would return it direct to Symantec and complain they are forcing nanny measures on those of us who know what we are doing and can take care of our computers with solutions and measures as we choose. I only like Norton NAV the rest is rubbish and there are far better firewalls and spyware. It forced me to uninstall my spyware and with a Linskys wireless network I have a hard firewall.

Logically, if you know someone with Norton AV 2006 and they make a list of all the Norton routines that run when they are UP then you would know what MUST run to support that portion and what then should be stopped to disable the other portions.

edit: I would post an abbreviated file showing what runs on my comp with Norton AV 2006 but, alas, I cannot paste a txt file.

CCT That is a bit over my head, sorry still struggling to pass MCP exams.

I have in fact now been able to get rid of the two features which were annoying me.

Does anyone know if I am allowed to instal this on three computers like I did with 2005 please? Got it on my main XP Pro computer and want to put it on my spare computer and my husband's. Do partitions running different OS count as separate computers for this?

Well logically only if you bought the multi license pack.

Last year I bought an ordinary 2005 pack from Amazon and it told me I had three instals but there is nothing on this 2006 pack to say but will try and instal it on another computer and see if I can activate it.

I know this may be a dumb statement but could you download and install a regular version of Norton AV 2006 and then use the key from the Norton Internet Security Edition 2006?

Would that be illegal? I am not really sure. If it's illegal then I would strongly recommend that you do not do it. Good luck.
