Question New Win XP PRO SP2 Probs

Well, after all the posts about my computer problems, I found out what it was. My HDD was going bad and finally crashed for good. So now I have a new HDD with fresh windows on it, but there's a couple little bugs I can't figure out.

When I double click on a folder the default is to "search", so a search window opens up. I have to right click and choose "open" to get in the folder. How can I change this?

And, "Num Lock" doesn't come on automatically on boot up. It's set to in CMOS, but it still doesn't come on.

    Any Ideas?

I know these are petty problems but they are very annoying and inconvenient.

From any Explorer window choose 'tools' then 'folder options' click the tab for file types, one of the first listed items will be 'folder' NOTE not file folder
click this icon for folder and you will see the possible default actions listed, currently yours seems to be wrongly set to 'search' there should be at least 2 other options in the list, 'open' and 'explore' I'm sure you can follow from here, don't forget to apply when done. Reboot just to make sure the new registry entry is set in memory (I don't think you need to but just to make sure). Now when you click or double click a folder it will either 'open' showing the files in a new window, or open Explorer with 2 panes, the folder on the left and the files on the right depending on which action you selected as default.
BTW to prevent any mishaps in future it's not a bad idea to delete any other folder options in the default actions dialogue, least then if it slips for some reason it can only have either 'open' or 'explore', I do this when installing PSpro as it adds itself in here as a context menu item, which I don't want.

Hope you fix this up OK.

As for NUMlock, the BIOS should indeed be leaving it on, if not I'm afraid you may be stuck with pushing the button unless your keyboard has it's own software, have a look in control panel\keyboards to see if there is an option that allows you to turn Numlock on\off if there is and its set to off it will overide the BIOS as that driver is loaded after the BIOS is done so any instructions in here will be the one carried out.
