ISP says linefeeds are causing problems
I have some PERL scripts that used to work fine and still do on several other ISPs.
My current ISP says they recently upgraded to a new version of Freebsd.
Some of my scripts would not run. These were the ones that used the
"time" function, to get the unix time.
They say that the LF (line feed) have to be removed to get the scripts to run.
I objected to that idea, so they say then can just remove the CR of the CRLF.
I never had problem like this before, so I think it is something odd about their new freebsd upgrade. These same scripts used to run on this server before.
Any ideas?

Best suggestion is to try their solution...if it works, assume they aren't all idiots. If it doesn't work...tell em to stick it...then write new scripts

Apparently their solution works, but it must be a workaround.
The scripts used to work, then they stopped working, at the time of the freebsd upgrade, then they started to work again,
with no changes and now they stopped working again.
They say that downloading the scripts and then uploading them again could create extra cr or lf .
However I have used these scripts for years on other isps and they never had this problem, and like I said they intermittently work on this ISP.
I don't believe in intermittent computer errors without some sort of human error involved somewhere.
On the other hand, if I did have to remove the CR and leave the LF, how would I go about doing that, for
a large number of scripts?

I read on another form that there is a FROMDOS command that would take out extra linefeeds etc. I didnt use that.
Now the scripts run again.
BUT:
I have a form that sends input to a cgi script, using POST.
I was telling them the script did not work when it got the sub for reading the form input, because that was where it was getting the internal error.
They told me it worked for them.
I had tried it from a win98 system where it didn't work, so I tried it from my XP system and it worked.
Any ideas how that could happen?
