Downloader Virus - System32\jetvol.dll
Hi there…
Every time I open Internet Explorer, Norton AntiVirus says I have a Virus attached to Windows\System32\jetvol.dll called Downloader (no suffix after the virus name). Neither Norton or AdAware SE can remove this.
I was able to remove a similar virus in the past by starting the computer in Safe Mode and changing the dll file to a text file and then re-starting the computer again in Command Prompt mode and deleting the file in that way. This time, it will not allow me to re-name the file saying it is being used by another person or program and that I would have to close any programs it might be using first.
At this point I have reached the limits of my knowledge and am asking for assistance from anyone out there that might know what I would need to do to remove this. This also seems to be similar to what TwinsMom is going through so please let me know if I have to go through some of the same fixes she does.
I thank anyone who responds in advance for their time and effort in helping me.

Will it allow you to run system restore to an earlier date?
Did you try to download or run a crack program like" HFNetChkPro "
or visit a site you don't usually visit?
That was not intended as a "flame war "question.I am just curious
because I have blew the tires out from under my system many times
just by being curious and going for it.
Sorry,I forgot again=Welcome to Windrivers. Ash74

One of the really really NEAT things about having legiitamite versions of Windows software is that, when we go to places we shouldn't, or click on things we sghouldn't, or let someone use our comps that we shouldn't, we can, at the end of the day:
CLEAN INSTALL!!!!!!
Lately, there are SO MANY people wanting to screw with our comps that, really, we should just, if we learn NOTHING ELSE, learn to do the clean install.
This also means we need to copy to cd/dvd/Iomega/other HD whatever or any files we deem CRITICAL on a routine basis.
I am not trying to be nasty here - just realistic. There is a LOT of good data here about Clean Installs and Root wipes so use it - and be careful out there!

Run a scan from www.bitdefender.com for viruses and then www.ewido.net for spyware. Maybe they can clean it for you

Hey Guys...
Thanks for the replies. I really do have a very limited knowledge of computers so everything here helps. I'll have to see if System Restore will allow me to go back before the virus started.
If not, I have a few scans I can download and add to try.
Thanks all and I'll let you know.
