SATA vs IDE file size differences

I just noticed something wierd. I copied 160 GB of data from a SATA drive to a Win2k server raid 5 partition made with 4 IDE drives and noticed that the exact same amount of files and folders are 2 gig smaller on the raid partition. Anyone have any idea what's going on here? Just curious.....

Do you know what the cluster size of each setup is? An optimized cluster size on an array that large can save that much space.

Oh it sure can, file slack can vary so much depending on the cluster size so to apparently save 2Gb is well within reason. It can work the other way around too, you'll find if you copied files in the other direction they would appear to grow.
