    Intel P4 HT vs. Duo

    Hello, everyone.

I woke up this morning and there is one question that would not get out of my head. What is the difference between the Intel P4 Processonrs with HT Technology and the Duo processirs? I think I have an idea, but I am not completely clear on that one...

    Thanks.

    HT is 'simulated' dual processing

    Duo core is 2 processors

    I see.

How much of a difference in processing power are we talking about?

Thanks. I think that pretty much sums it up.

    Thanks a lot.

If you are going to go Intel get the new Core Duo processors. The pentium 4 is and has been crap for years. Intel finally released an efficient processor that runs cooler and performs much better at a lower frequency.

Thats because they are probably near impossible to get your hands on unless you are an OEM or buy in large quantities.

Well I've had mine for a couple of months now (not that I've had chance to do much with it yet), I like it. Zippier than my previous 2.8GHz P4, even though I went for Core rather than Core 2, as it's for a silent system, and not top spec, as I had a budget! Plus, Core 2 hadn't been released. It's possible in the future, if Asus have allowed for it in the design, that the system could be updated with the laptop Merom chip if I need more performance. (Edit: Just noticed the BIOS version does support Merom)

    Spec:

    Asus N4L-VM DH
    1.83GHz Core Duo (Yonah)
    2GB 667MHz DDR2
Gigabyte nVidia 6600 256M Passive cooled
    E-mu 0404 sound card
