Help To Get Isa Driver For Dos / Win 98

    Hi, friends,
Iīve got a Pentium II / 350 Mhz machine with Windows 98 and 96 RAM. I got an ISA
network card that I took from an old 1997īs Pentium 133.
It has no PCI / PnP feature, so I canīt find drivers anywhere. It only says on the board a label called GL-2000PCT (it seems thatīs the model) and says GOAL COMPUTERS.
It has classic BNC and classic conector, and two lights (LINK and ACT)

I tried to install generic NE1000 and NE2000 drivers, and it asks for them, but I canīt found them in Internet.

    The chipsets are:
DELTA DPSO5U09D (canīt get if theyīre zeros or Oīs).
    Other chip says 004005 - 447A15
    The others say TA100-05B
    20F001N
    YCL 9644 GX

    Thank You very much.

Hi. There are other pieces of information that could help others help you.

    1. Is there an FCC ID number anywhere on the card?

    2. What OS are you using on the PC you are attempting to install the card in?

The generic generic NE1000 and NE2000 drivers should be included on the OS installation disk. You shouldn't have to find them on the Internet.

Edit: Never mind #2. Another victim of illiteracy here. You are using Windows 98. When asked for the generic NE1000 and NE2000 drivers, browse to x:\win98 where "x" is the drive letter of your installation CD. You might also look to see if whoever set the system up copied the win98 folder onto the hard drive, in which case you could browse the hard drive folder.

Edit: What DOS client are you using? Is this a dual boot machine, DOS and W98?

    RE: thanks

Thank you very much for your help.

Well, Itīs a single boot machine (you press F8 at booting to enter DOS mode).

The card was taken from and old Pentium which had no disks, only dust.
I installed the card on an ISA Slot and changed BIOS parameters to ISA/EISA . The problem appears when I try to match IRQ, DMA, etc.

I installed the card, asked for Windows 98 CD , and is OK (the same dir that has the CAB files). After that asks for some files from the Novell DOS DISK (lbs.com or so),
that i couldnīt find in the internet.

    But always tells me either,

    1) When Windows starts (appears desktop) appears a message saying "The network adapter Novell NE2000 was is not working properly"

    or

    2) In the Network properties page, says that has not all drivers.

Once I set up this (and in the Network - System Properties appears the "#" sign, which means it works OK)

Classic troubles of ISA cards, huh?

Well, anyway Iīll get a PCI (PnP) card later, but i want to try till the last chance to make it work.

What can I do with the FCC? Does it really help me to search for drivers?

    Thanks a lot

Really most older ISA card worked nicely the problem is finding drivers if you don't have on hand the card drivers / you also could give www.driversguide.com

I never cease to be amazed at the ammount of effort folks will go to in order to get "free" stuff to work. Newegg has Encore Via Rhine III PCI NICs starting at $5.00 with a $5.00 mail-in rebate! $4.99 3 day shipping while supplies last. They have other NICs starting at $3.99. Can you use only an ISA NIC, or what?
